Textbook Information

Phelan complies with the Williams Law; every child has an appropriate textbook for all academic subjects requiring textbooks.  All textbooks are up to date and have been approved by the State Board of Education.  Students are allowed to take their textbooks home for study after school.  Textbooks are selected by  committees of teachers from appropriate grade levels who have been given the opportunity to view a variety of state adopted materials before making their selections.  Before any committee makes  a final choice, potential series for adoption are displayed at each site for review by all teachers.

WCSD requested and received a waiver for purchasing new Reading-Language Arts and K-5 Mathematics textbooks because of the current budget situation.  Existing textbooks are aligned with current state standards.
