Principal's Message (optional)
At Mill School and Technology Academy, the staff, parents, and community work as a team to create an educationally rich environment that celebrates diversity, promotes character development, and nurtures a passion for life-long learning. Academic standards and high expectations form the foundation for quality instruction that continues to increase student achievement. We relentlessly teach our students to become educated, responsible, productive members of a democratic society.

This year, Mill School became a Technology Academy.  We have created Smart classrooms in 5th, 4th, and 3rd grades and one classroom in 2nd grade.  Teachers use their computer and internet resources to design their lessons.  Lessons are projected onto SmartBoards which engage the students in a variety of ways.  Information can be manipulated by both teacher and students.  Document cameras are replacing the overhead projector, allowing teachers to be able to immediately display student work as a model for classroom discussion, including 3-D items as well.  Another tool that is used is the Senteo Response System which allows students to key in their answer with immediate feedback in graph form and from the teacher.  Students in grades 3 - 5 use the laptops twice a week to use Kidbiz, a web based program, that increases both reading and comprehension skills with immediate feedback.  Our goal is to complete Smart classrooms in grades 1 and 2 by the end of the 07/08 school year.

Parents are actively involved in the Parent Teacher Corporation (PTC).  With their support, each classroom goes on a fieldtrip to support grade level curriculum.  We are very proud of the Art Masters progam that the PTC provides.  Each year, every child learns about six different artists and has the opportunity to try their hand using the artist's style. Several family activites are enthusistically supported throughout the year, building a strong family community at Mill School and Technology Academy.

In addition to Art Masters, we provide an after school Chorus class and a Drama class.  We strongly believe that the Visual and Performing Arts are an important component of a child's education. Another avenue for students to display their creativity is to work on the yearbook, a web-based computer program.

Mill's Student Council plans school spirit activities throughout the year.  To inspire an academic climate, every Tuesday is "I'm Going to College."  To support this, students and staff wear a college t-shirt of their choice or a Mill college shirt.  Banners hang high from universities around the 50 states.  Each month, a new attribute necessary for college success is explored, for example, Study Skills.

Mill School and Technology Academy is a home away from home for 330 students. Our parents trust us with the responsibility to educate each child to achieve his or her highest potential. Our educational program encourages the development of good citizenship, personal responsibility, self-respect and the respect of others. We will continue to build a strong academic program, to raise student achievement, and to actively involve our school community in the ongoing process of improvement.
