Types of Services Funded
Whittier City School District receives ADA for students for all educational services including salaries, instructional materials, maintenance, transportation and capital expenses. In addition schools receive Categorical funds from Title I, Title V, LEP, School Improvement, Special Education, After School Intervention programs for those students in need, and School Library Funding. At Mill School and Technology Academy, categorical funds are used to encourage students to read and to develop their comprehension. Students in grades 2 - 5 participate in Scholastic's Reading Counts. Achieve 3000 KidBiz, a web-based program, is used to improve reading and comprehension skill in grades 3-5. Each classroom in grades 1 -5 has a SmartBoard, a LCD projector, and a document camera. Every teacher has a laptop to faciltate instruction and to enter and to analyze student data. Each student participates in the Art Masters program, funded by PTC. Every year, this program provides information about six different famous artists. Students experience each artist's technique and style while producing their own piece of art. PTC also provides a fieldtrip for each grade-level to support and enhance the grade-level curriculum. A District-wide PEP grant provides Peaceful Playgrounds on each elementary campus.
